The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation is calling on the Government and the HSE to take action, in light of serious hospital overcrowding, while COVID hospitalisations continue to increase.
Over 1 thousand people tested positive for the virus at hospitals nationwide for the second day and HSE figures show University Hospital Limerick has the highest number of cases at 96.
The INMO says there are also 532 patients waiting on trolleys at Irish hospitals, 76 of those at UHL. They’re urging the Government to take action before summer recess on Thursday.
Taoiseach Micheal Martin says the upsurge in covid cases has contributed to long wait times in hospitals and speaking on the way into Cabinet, he acknowledged the impact it’ll have on healthcare staff.
