Newly-published CSO figures put the number of people on dole queues in Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary at just under 28,000.
This is down from nearly 32,500 at the same time last year, while in percentage terms the drop is the biggest recorded in any of Ireland's regions.
Nationally, the unemployment rate remained unchanged this month, at 10 per cent though the number of people on the live register has fallen below 350 thousand for the first time in six years.
