Numbers Claiming Unemployment Benefit In Clare Continue To Fall

The number of people claiming some form of unemployment benefit in Clare is continuing to fall.

The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office shows there were close to 4,600 people on the Live Register in this county in March.

Positive trends continued in March with a 3% drop in the number of people on the Live Register countywide, compared to the previous month, and a 9% reduction on the same month last year.

According to CSO figures published today, 4,580 people are now claiming unemployment benefit at one of Clare’s social welfare offices, with three out of four areas seeing a reduction in numbers signing on.

The highest number of those seeking financial assistance were in the Ennis area, where numbers fell by 29 between February and March.

North Clare saw the greatest reduction in numbers, with 108 people leaving the dole queues, while in West Clare, the figure went down by 27.

In East Clare, there was no change, but numbers there are still 9% lower than the same month in 2023.

Overall across the county, the numbers of men and women signing on were similar, with two fewer males on the live register than females.

The number of people aged under the age of 25, who were seeking unemployment benefit also dropped, with 41 fewer young adults on the live register in March, compared to the previous month.
