An East Clare councillor has described the number of break-ins at schools around the county as “a worrying trend”.

It comes after two hooded men attempted to break into a shed at Ballina National School near Killaloe overnight, in what Gardaí believe was an attempt to disarm the alarm.

A number of burglaries have also been carried out in schools around Clare, including at Spanish Point, over the past few months.
