The number of planning permissions granted for houses and apartments in Clare has risen by more than 50 percent in two years.

97 dwellings were given the green light in this county in the third quarter of this year.

New CSO statistics show that of the 97 homes granted planning permission in this county in the first nine months of the year, just 4 of them were apartments.

However, it’s a significant jump on earlier in 2021, when 64 homes – though just one flat – were given the go ahead between April and June.

This quarter shows an increase on the 71 homes that were signed off on between July and September in 2020, and the 63 in the same period in 2019.

Upon his recent visit to Clare, Junior Minister for Housing Peter Burke committed to an increase in builds in this county over the next number of years – and that appears to be bearing out already.

206 homes were green lighted in Clare in the first nine months of 2019, with just 126 in the same period in 2020, mainly due to restrictions caused by the pandemic.

However, that number has risen to 223 so far in 2021 – though almost 9 in 10 of these are one off houses, which is sure to be in the back of minds of Councillors here as the County Development Plan moves into public consultation.
