Over 700 people waited in queues in Kilrush, with a further 655 in Ennistymon and 600 in Tulla.

While the figure is a very slight drop on July’s number, it’s a fall of a quarter on the same time 12 months ago.

It’s also a near 10 percent fall in the number of people on the Live Register in this county in August 2019, signifying a potential employment improvement beyond pre-pandemic levels.

Meanwhile, the number of people availing of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment in Clare continues to hit its lowest levels seen since the onset of COVID-19.

3,177 people in this county received the Government support into their bank accounts today.

From next week, recipients will receive 50 euro less in their payment, with further cuts set to happen in November and February.

It means that a total of 7,288 are claiming some form of unemployment benefit in this county now – a fall of 6 percent in just one month.
