Number Of Unemployed Young People In Clare Stagnant Since Beginning Of Year

The number of young people unemployed in Clare has remained stagnant since the beginning of the year.

The latest statistics from the Central Statistics Office shows the number of adults under the age of 25 in the county remained at just over 400 in February, while the overall county total reduced marginally.

The number of people claiming some form of unemployment benefit in Clare stood at 4,744 last month, according to the latest report from the CSO.

That represents a slight fall of 28 on the January figure, though it’s a reduction of 905 on the same month last year.

Ennis was the only area of the county to see an increase in Live Register figures last month, with 1,971 adults signing on; up four on January figures.

In North Clare, numbers dropped by 12 over the space of a month and in West and East Clare, there were falls of 13 and seven respectively.

The number of young people signing on in the county remained unchanged between January and February, with 404 men and women under the age of 25 claiming some form of unemployment benefit.

Only West and North Clare saw a change last month, with unemployment numbers dropping by three at the Ennistymon office and increasing by the same number at Kilrush.

Overall, it’s still a 16% reduction in the number of under 25s seeking social welfare benefit though, when compared to February 2024.
