There’s been an increase in the number of homicides of almost 20 percent.

The Central Statistics Office has published new figures on recorded crime for the last quarter of 2012.
78 people were killed in 2012 – that’s 12 more people than died by homicide in 2011.
Sexual offences were also up – by 2.2 percent to two thousand and fifty nine.
Burglary and related offences were up by 0.3 percent and fraud, deception and the like were up by 3.0 percent.
