Number Of New Diesel Cars Registered In Clare Falls By 40 Percent

The number of new diesel cars registered in Clare last month fell by 40 percent compared to the same time last year.

Figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry show 548 new vehicle registrations were made in this county in January.

The number of new vehicles documented by SIMI in this county last month fell slightly from 12 months ago.

However, there’s been a marked increase in the number of electric models being registered.

28 fully electric vehicles were registered here compared to 20 in the same month last year, while the number of plug in electric hybrid models has doubled in the same timeframe.

While the number of new petrol and diesel vehicles coming on stream in Clare is reducing, they still make up around 60 percent of registrations.

The number of vehicles documented in this county in the two lowest emission bands – A0 and A1 – more than doubled last month.

Clare’s most popular brand of new car is Toyota, accounting for nearly one in five new models, with Nissan, Hyundai and Kia next.

The traditional colours of grey, black and blue still account for most new car registrations here.
