There were 18 site visits by potential investors to Clare in all of 2016 but that number will almost definitely be surpassed this year.

New figures revealed to the Dáil show that between January and June alone, there were 17 companies that visited the banner county.

That’s the same number as Limerick, with the figure only lower than Dublin, Galway, Cork and Westmeath.

It comes as the number of people who are at work in the Mid-West has grown by over 4,000 in the past year.

Just under 162,000 people are in employment in Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary, according to new CSO figures.

They also measure the unemployment rate here at 6.7%, down nearly two points in the past twelve months but still slightly higher than the national average.
