The number of homeless adults in Clare has increased by almost a quarter in the year to December.
The latest data from the Department of Housing shows that there were 67 adults in Clare without a home on Christmas Day.
The level of homelessness across the MidWest region, which in this instance refers to Clare and Limerick, has jumped by almost 32% last December when compared to the same time the previous year.
This is above the national average of 30%.
In Clare, 67 adults accessed state-managed emergency accommodation in the week from December 19th to 25th.
This is a more than 23% increase on the 53 who were in need of shelter in December 2021.
134 people contacted the Clare Homeless Action Team during the month of December, 27 of which were new presentations and 107 repeat contacts.
This is a just under 60% decrease on the 247 people who contacted the team in November.
As of December 8th, 20 families were accessing emergency accommodation – including 44 children.
This compares to the 13 families comprised of 23 children who were accommodated in December 2021, a rise of 42% and 63% respectively.
