Number Of Covid Patients At UHL Jumps By Almost A Quarter In A Week

The number of Covid patients at the region’s main hospital has jumped by almost a quarter in the space of a week.

The latest HSE figures show there are now 105 patients, who’ve tested positive for the virus at University Hospital Limerick, as of this morning, up from 86 on the same day last week.

The numbers in intensive care or the high dependency unit being treated for the virus has remained relatively stable, however, with 5 in the ICU this morning, which is a reduction of 1 on last week’s figure.

Daily case numbers remain above 10 thousand across the country, but Health Minister Stephen Donnelly says the true figures are likely higher, with hundreds of thousands of people getting Covid every week.

The INMO is calling on the Government to reintroduce the mask mandate immediately.

Director of Industrial Relations with the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation, Tony Fitzpatrick, is calling on senior ministers to take action:

Despite this, the Health Minister says he hasn’t received any public health advice to reintroduce guidelines.

Stephen Donnelly says his department’s focus is on expanding the booster campaign.
