The number of Covid patients at the region’s main hospital has almost doubled in the past week.

The latest HSE figures show there were 26 patients with the virus at University Hospital Limerick this morning, up from 15 this time last week.

It’s the second highest of any hospital in the country and comes amid concerns that Ireland could be facing a new Covid-19 wave, with the seven day positivity rate for PCR tests nationally rising to 16.7% from 12.6% a week ago.
