Number of Commencement Notices In Clare Doubles In The Last Month

The number of new homes under construction in Clare has doubled in the last month.

New data from the Department of Housing shows that 30 commencement notices were issued to Building Control Authorities in relation to properties in Clare in July.

When local authorities such as Clare County Council receive word a person’s carrying out works or changing use of a building, they’re issued with a commencement notice.

The number of such notices being issued in Clare has nearly doubled for the month of July this year with 30 notices compared to just 15 last July.

However, there has been a 12% drop in the number of commencement notices issued in this county in the first seven months of 2023 compared to pre-pandemic levels.

129 notices have been issued from January to July compared to 148 in the same period in 2019.

Residential commencement notices are on the rise however with 384 issued in the first seven months of this year compared to 248 in 2019 which is an increase of more than 35%.

The number of single residential commencement notices is also down with just 114 issued from January to July of this year compared to 140 in the same period of 2019.

National figures have seen an almost 9% drop from 2019 in the first seven months of the year to 3,473 in the same period this year.
