Number Of Under 25s Claiming Unemployment Benefit In Clare Jumps By 5%

The number of people aged under 25 in Clare who’re claiming some form of unemployment benefit has jumped by 5%.

The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show there were 431 young people on the Live Register in June, up from 407 in May.

4,243 people signed on in Clare last month, an increase of 28 on May’s figure.

There was a divide in the county, however, with only two areas seeing positive trends.

Ennis saw reduced dole queues last month, with 2,101 signing on, down 27 when compared to May, while in North Clare there was a reduction of 14 to 903.

In West and East Clare the numbers claiming unemployment benefit increased, with 685 and 554 respectively on the live register there.

The numbers of people aged 25 and under increased between May and June, with 431 now signing on, but that’s still 57 fewer than the same time last year.

While, overall, there were 521 fewer people claiming some form of unemployment benefit across the county last month than in June 2023.
