Timetables on the Limerick-Ennis-Galway rail line have been criticised as confusing, restricted and less than satisfactory.

The findings are contained in a leaked study on the Western Rail Corridor which says the current service is unattractive to many commuters as its "slow infrequent and costly" in comparison to other modes of transport linking Clare to Galway and Limerick.
Passenger traffic is particularly low between Ennis and Athenry, which only re-opened in 2010.
The report by the National Transport Authority recommends boosting commuter trains to attract more workers and students and better integration of coordinated bus services to attract more tourists.
