The National Roads Authority has criticised members of Clare's Joint Policing Authority for using "inflammatory language" over road safety issues on the Ennis to Gort Motorway.

It follows news that the M18 will be closed on the northbound section between Barefield and Crusheen for much of next week for repair works and drainage assessments.
Concerns were raised about the safety of this stretch of the motorway by Clare Gardaí following 9 accidents in a 12-hour period last December, while last week Councillors and the local Mayor said motorists no longer feel safe using the route.
