The National Road Authority is defending its latest closure of a section of the M18 motorway, saying its part of ongoing maintanance works.
Concerns have been raised in the past over safety and drainage issues on the section of the road between Barefield and Crisheen.
The northbound section of M18 between junction 14 Barefield and junction 15 Crusheen will be closed again from Tuesday the 4th of August to Friday the 7th, while the Northbound carriageway from Crusheen to Gort will be closed the following week.
The NRA says it part of ongoing seasonal operations, as well as work on drainage along the country's entire motorway network.
Concerns have been raised over this section of the M18, particularly in light of the high number of accidents during bad weather but the NRA says the problem is mainly due to the weather itself, and driver behaviour
NRA Spokesman Sean O'Neill admits closing motorways to facilitate this kind of work is not hugely common.
Clare County Councillors habe issued invitations to the NRA to discuss issues on the road with them, but the invitation has not been accepted.
Again today, the NRA has said no meeting will be held but East Clare Councillor Pat Hayes is disappointed.
He says causing disruption during the tourist season is simply unacceptable.
