The number of homes granted planning permission in Clare has plummeted in the last year.
New figures from the Central Statistics Office show there was a near 65% reduction in the number of housing projects approved by Clare County Council between January and March.
The local authority granted planning permission for 54 housing developments, in the first quarter of the year.
It’s envisaged these projects will yield a total of 90 new residential units.
Only eight local authorities granted planning permission for fewer homes than Clare County Council during this timeframe, and the activity recorded pales in comparison to that of one year ago.
Between January and March of 2023, a total of 249 houses were approved for construction in this county, meaning the number of housing projects given the green light in Clare has reduced by 63% in the last year.
The biggest drop-off was in multi-development houses, In Q1 of 2023, 167 of these were granted permission, this fell to just 12 this year.
The number of one-off houses granted permission also fell significantly from, dropping from 75 to 54.
Although there was a marked increase in the number of apartments, given the green light in this county, tripling from 7 at the beginning of last year to 21 between this January and March.
