Shannon Airport is gaining an extra weekly transatlantic flight this winter, but also losing a route.

Norweigian Air has announced that flights from Shannon to Providence, which is near Boston, will be suspended from the end of October.

However, the airline is to add another weekly service to Steward Airport near New York, bringing its total number of return flights there to four.

Fianna Fáil Newmarket-on-Fergus Councillor Pat McMahon says it’s mixed news, and he’s disappointed to hear of the cutback of the Providence service.
