Norwegian has confirmed it’s to increase its Shannon-Stewart operations from three to five weekly services next summer, bringing an additional 23,000 seats online on the Stewart service next summer, representing a 28% increase.

As a result, Shannon Airport will have nine services altogether next summer, five to Stewart and four to Providence, Rhode Island, which is more than double the number when Norwegian Air International commenced its Shannon operations.

In a statement to Clare FM, the CEO of Shannon Airport has said the “Wild Atlantic Way has been a game-changer”.

Shannon is the only airport on the route with daily flights to and from the US and Matthew Thomas says “Shannon is the key gateway to what has been one of the great tourism industry successes globally this decade”.

It follows follows a successful year for the Midwest Airport, which alredy has six airlines operating to seven transatlantic destinations this summer, giving Shannon its busiest summer season in 17 years.
