Shannon Gardai are urging motorists to avoid a portion of the Northbound carraigeway of the N18 which remains closed due to an extensive oil spill.
Traffic heading from Limerick towards Ennis is being diverted off the route at Setright’s Cross and are returning to the road at Sixmilebridge.
That stretch of the main road is closed to most traffic, though some heavy goods traffic is being allowed through on the roads. Long tailbacks are in place, and are reportedly reaching the Limerick Tunnel.
Gardai say the road will remain closed for a number of hours. Motorists intending to travel along the road are asked to postpone their journeys or take an alternative route.
(NOTE – This update is correct as of 6:35 p.m on Friday February 1st. Road likely to remain closed until at least 8:00. Follow twitter.com/clarefm for further updates as we get them.)
