A North Clare principal insists her school won’t become a “statistic” as it fights to stay open.
Furglan National School has six days to bring its complement of students to 11 before the Department of Education closes its books for the 2025 to 2026 school year.
The school, which is located in a townland between Inagh and Ennistymon, currently has seven pupils enrolled and risks closure if it can’t hit the minimum number required before it submits its annual returns on September 30th.
Principal of Furglan National School, Patricia Vaughan, says it’s a nationwide issue that isn’t being discussed.
