A North Clare postmaster says any deal between Bank of Ireland and An Post must come with a commercial value for post offices in Clare and elsewhere.

It’s believed the bank’s customers will be able to use the post office’s national network for withdrawal and lodgement services in the near future.

It’s after the institution announced blanket closures across the country last week, including its branches in Kilkee, Miltown Malbay and Tulla.

Clare FM also understands ATM services will no longer be provided in any of the three locations once the branches finally close their doors.

Ennistymon Fianna Fail councillor and postmaster Shane Talty believes for any deal to work, post offices will need to benefit financially.
