North Clare GP Warns Crisis Facing Sector Will Worsen Unless Immediate Action Taken

A North Clare GP insists the challenges facing general practicioners will only get worse, unless steps are taken now to deal with ongoing crisis.

The Irish College of General Practitioners has appeared before the Oireachtas Health Committee this week to warn that the profession is in the midst of a general practice workforce and worload crisis.

It says practices are busier than ever but are less able to find replacements for retiring doctors, with just 9 per cent of interns are choosing general practice as their career choice.
