North Clare GP Says Restriction Easing Shouldn’t Happen Until Boosters Administered

A North Clare GP insists the full easing of COVID-19 restrictions should not happen until the elderly and immuno-compromised have been given booster shots.

It comes as NPHET is to meet today to discuss the way forward in the next number of weeks, with a roadmap set to be published by Government before the end of the month.

Health Protection Surveillance data suggests as of this past weekend, Clare has the lowest seven day incidence rate of the virus in the country per 100,000 people at 133.8.

While no formal recommendation has yet been made to administer a booster programme in Ireland, it looks likely to begin for over 80’s in the Autumn.

Lahinch GP Dr Michael Kelleher says full restrictions across society shouldn’t be completely eased until the vulnerable receive full protection from a third jab.
