A Clare IMO GP Committee Member has accused the government of “ignoring” the GP crisis for a number of years.

It comes after the Health Minister has announced that GP training places will be increased by one third from 258 to 350 by 2040, to combat the growing GP crisis.

A mass recruitment drive is underway with the capacity for non-EU GP training schemes to be expanded from 50 to 250 by 2024.

However, a Lahinch GP believes this is too little too late as GP services are already overburdened by demand.
