A North Clare GP is questioning the accuracy of figures released earlier this week documenting the number of people suffering from ‘Long Covid’.
New data collated suggested as many as 8,300 people in Clare may be suffering from long term effects of the condition, based on a Lancet paper suggesting 1 in 8 people who get Covid then develop Long Covid.
It’s led to calls for more treatment centres to deal with the condition to be set up nationally, though Lahinch GP Dr Michael Kelleher says those figures don’t correspond with what’s happening on the ground.
Dr Kelleher believes focusing on the updated booster programme for over 60s is what should be prioritised at the moment.
