North Clare Councillor Calls For Earlier Decisions For School Transport Applications

A North Clare Councillor is calling on the Department of Education and Bus Éireann to co-ordinate applications for school places and transport.

Students in Corofin attending school in Ennistymon had previously relied on the Bus Éireann 333 bus if they failed to secure a place through the School Transport System, however this is no longer an option following a change to the timetable.

Currently applications for secondary schools close in December, with offers made in January, but places on the school bus aren’t allocated until Summer.

Fianna Fáil Councillor from Corofin, Joe Killeen wants these dates to be synchronised to alleviate pressure on parents to accept a school place without the guarantee of transport.
