A North Clare Councillor says any emergency legislation enacted to ensure quicker access to accommodation for Ukrainian refugees should be made a permanent measure.
Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien is to bring a number of options to Cabinet today in response to the crisis, including the possibility of bringing empty social homes back into use far more quickly.
Local authorities, including Clare County Council, will have to submit the numbers of each type of property available in each area of the county, along with the extent of work that is required.
Lisdoonvarna-based Fine Gael Councillor Joe Garrihy, whose town is catering for hundreds of refugees, says the measure is urgently needed.
