Finance Minister Michael Noonan is set to hold top level talks in Europe today, as he works to reduce the cost of the banking bailout.
He says political work is underway, with the technical part of the negotiations already ‘reasonably advanced’.
The main task is the government’s ongoing campaign to cut the cost of the 30 billion euro recapitalisation of the former Anglo Irish Bank.
Meanwhile, the ongoing efforts to secure a deal between Greece and its bondholders will be high on European finance ministers’ agenda when they meet in Brussels for more talks today.
The meetings in Athens continued into the early hours of this morning, but there’s still no sign of a deal.
European finance ministers have today urged Greece to prepare new budget cuts soon, and conclude their negotiations within days.
