Clare’s fourteen year wait for a senior ministerial position will continue.

It’s after Taoiseach Micheál Martin named his cabinet this afternoon.

Clare TD Timmy Dooley had been hotly tipped for promotion after receiving the second-highest first preference vote of any Fianna Fáil candidate in the general election, with only Micheál Martin accumulating more.

The Tulla based deputy is expected however to be appointed to a Minister of State role, while party colleague Cathal Crowe TD and Fine Gael deputy Joe Cooney are also in contention.

Dun Laoghaire TD Jennifer Carroll MacNeill has been appointed Minister for Health.

While Fine Gael’s Patrick O’Donovan remains the only MidWest TD in cabinet.

Former Fianna Fáil TD Tony Killeen was the last Clare TD to hold a senior ministerial position, when he served as Minister for Defence from 2010 to 2011.
