No Publication Date Yet For Nugent Report

The Minister for Justice is still not in a position to give a timeline on when her Department will publish a report into the 1984 death of Patrick Nugent.

The 23-year-old banqueting manager had been working at a party in Bunratty before his death, and the jury at his inquest later ruled he had been accidentally hit by a car after he had been struck by a person or persons unknown.

No one has ever been convicted in relation to his death.

The government received the report of Judge Patrick Clyne on November 3rd last, and has vowed to publish it, but five months on that’s yet to happen.

Minister Helen McEntee has told Deputy Michael Mcnamara that the advice of the Attorney General on the matter, and while she has promised to be in touch with the Nugent family “as soon as possible”, no timeline has been given.
