It seems Clare homeowners won't see any cut in their property taxes, as a result of plans drawn up by the Government.
From next year councils across the country will keep 80% of the funding they raise through property tax.
The remaining money will be distributed to poorer councils who don't raise enough cash from the tax.
But in a document prepared for the Economic Management Council – and seen by the Irish Independent – a fresh round of cuts will prevent 11 local authorities, including Clare County Council, from adjusting the charge
Others affected include Cork city and county, two local authorities in Dublin, Kerry, Kildare, Meath, Louth, Wicklow and Galway.
Prior to the local elections here, a number of candidates said they would try to get the property tax in Clare cut by the maximum level of 15%.
The newspaper reports that the issue continues to split the coalition with Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore refusing to sign off on the plan and leaving it to his successor to negotiate.
