There has been no increase in patients attending the region's main hospital following the decision by ShannonDoc to scale back services in parts of Clare.

The CEO of UL Hospitals Group is commenting as trolley numbers have fallen at University Hospital Limerick from a record high of 66 earlier this month, though the level of overcrowding remains among the worst in the country.

ShannonDoc has blamed falling GP numbers for it's decision to curtail services but the HSE says there are only two fewer doctors throughout the county in the past six years.

There had been fears that overcrowding would worsen at University Hospital Limerick as a result of the changes but Colette Cowan says there's no evidence of that so far.
