The people of Shannon have been told there’s no health risk in the area, despite persistent foul odours.
Clare County Council has agreed with the findings of the Environmental Protection Agency regarding the inadequacy of the local water water treatment plant, but a solution to the problem may be a number of years away.
The Council has told Clare FM that funding for a new sewerage system will depend on the new Irish Water Authority, but they’re hoping to arrange some interim measures before then.
Fears had been expressed that the smell in Shannon may have posed a risk to human health, but Council Engineer Sean Ward says Tthe EPA don’t believe there’s cause for worry.
