Fr Ger Nash is commenting in light of the new diocesan plan which makes a number of suggestions on how to deal with the climate of falling vocations and increased involvement of lay people in the church.

The plan has arisen out of extensive consultation which has highlighted "a number of major shocks in the lives of clergy" including "the revelations of clerical child abuse and related cover-ups".

Fr Ger Nash says the Church faces a challenge in a time when people place less emphasis on faith.
