Residents of Clonlara are hopeful their “nightmare is finally over” following the official opening of a multi-million euro flood-relief scheme.
The €5.2M Springfield project will protect 21 households in the local area that have been devastated by flooding over the past three decades, with many residents forced out of their homes.

The new scheme involves a pumping station and an 850m defence embankment across the floodplains of Cappavilla North and Illaunyregan.
Springfield resident Gerardine Quinlivan says it took extreme perseverance to make it to this day.
