The Newmarket-on-Fergus Community Forum has expressed hope that the Health Minister will secure a facility in the village where a GP could operate indefinitely in the near future.
A delegation from Newmarket met with Minister Stephen Donnelly at Dáil Éireann last evening following a public meeting which was held in the village on Monday evening in relation to concerns about the potential closure of the GP practice currently operational at Carrigoran House.
Minister Donnelly has confirmed the existing operation at Carrigoran will be extended until the end of December and that he will work with the HSE to assess the viability of securing a permanent facility in the village where a medical practicioner could work out of.
Newmarket-on-Fergus Community Forum spokesperson Pat Enright says while the news of the extension is welcome, having a permanent facility in place would be a vital boost to the village in attracting a full-time general practitioner.
