A new wind farm has been proposed on the outskirts of one of West Clare’s largest towns.
Illaunbaun Wind Farm Limited is seeking 10-year planning permission for a development which would have an operational life of 35 years on a site outside Miltown Malbay.
The proposed wind farm would be located in the townlands of Tooreen, Slievenalicka, Illaunbaun, Drumbaun and Lackmore.
The works would primarily involve the construction of five wind turbines with a maximum overall blade tip height of 150 metres.
Associated turbine foundations, a crane pad hardstand and assembly areas would be built, along with a permanent 38-kilovolt electrical on-site substation with a control building, associated electrical switchgear, security fencing, underground cabling and drainage infrastructure.
Other aspects of the development include internal underground electrical and communications cabling connecting the turbines to the on-site substation, the upgrade of existing tracks and roads, and the creation of new access roads to facilitate the wind farm’s construction and operation.
The application states permanent as well as temporary tree feeling would be required, in addition to the erection of signage and associated site development works.
Clare County Council must make a decision on the project by October 21st while submissions can be made up until September 30th.
