New UHL Modular Unit To Open Next Winter

The head of the UL Hospitals Group expects a new 60-bed modular unit at the region’s main hospital to open next winter.

Colette Cowan has been outlining how preperatory work is already well-underway for the facility, even before the Health Minister confirmed its funding yesterday.

It’s hoped the facility will alleviate overcrowding issues at Dooradoyle, and Colette Cowen says they’ll now push ahead to bring it to fruition.

Clare patients are being warned of a “very busy” winter in the local hospitals system.

However, the head of the UL hospitals group Colette Cowan also insists they’ve been planning for the busiest time of the year since June.

While stressing that patients who are in need of emergency care will be seen as a priority in Dooradoyle, Ms. Cowan is urging patients to try to stay away from the hospital if at all possible.
