New St Joseph’s Facility Has Potential ‘To Be Best In The Country’

A senior HSE official believes a planned new facility for St Joseph’s Community Hospital in Ennis could be ‘the best facility in the country’ once it’s completed.

It’s after news emerged that the HSE is set to formally lodge plans for a new building on a green field site.

More than a million euro was set aside in the HSE’s Capital Plan, which was unveiled earlier this week, for a new building for St Joseph’s on a new green field site.

A five acre site near the Turnpike was acquired back in 2019 with the intention of constructing a new 100 bed facility.

It’s understood around 75 of these beds are intended to be long stay, with the other 25 to be short stay.

Clare’s Independent TD is hopeful a plans for a new building for St Joseph’s Community Hospital in Ennis can be fast tracked.

Scariff-based Deputy Michael McNamara says similar projects in this county have successfully come through the planning process in the past.

A senior HSE official in the Midwest believes the facility will be as good as any other in the region once it’s completed and opened.

The amenity will be in line with HIQA standards, with the public set to be given the chance to input its views into plans shortly.

Chief Officer with HSE Mid West Community Healthcare, Maria Bridgeman, says it will significantly increase standards of care once it’s built.
