New figures show a general improvement in waiting times at the region's main hospitals.
Just under 2,000 people are waiting to be seen at Ennis General, with 232 of these waiting at least a year.
However, that figure does represent a 37% improvement when compared with six months earlier.
Patients waiting for treatment on ear, nose and throat issues make up the majority of these – nine have been waiting over 18 months to be seen.
In the same six months, the number of patients waiting a year for an appointment at Galway University Hospital has nearly halved, while in Limerick there's been a 12% fall, though all of those who had been waiting at least 18 months for an outpatient appointment appear to have been seen.
The figures, from the National Treatment Purchase Fund, also show an improvement in waiting times for inpatient or day cases.
At the end of February, 59 patients were waiting at least 15 months to be seen, down from 518 at the same time last year.
