An Ennis woman is seeking the removal of a new streetlight which she claims resembles “ET’s grandchildren”.
The structure in question is a lighting fixture recently installed in front of the Cathedral in what will be known as the ‘Cathedral Quarter’.

In a statement to Clare FM, Clare County Council says the lamp has been chosen for its “appearance, technical performance, energy efficiency and ability to provide focused illumination while minimising light pollution”.
Cora Hahessy insists while she’s open to change and progress, the new fixture doesn’t fit in with its surroundings.
