The New Mayor of Clare has expressed fears that some communities could face economic disadvantage or isolation due to local electoral boundary changes.

Ruan Fine Gael Councillor Joe Arkins has taken on the mayoral chains for the final year of the county council’s current term, and faces an uncertain political future himself, with Ruan moving from the former Ennistymon area to the Killaloe eletoral grouping under local government changes.
First elected in 1999, Councillor Arkins said becoming mayor is the proudest honour for any citizen of Clare, but he outlined many challenges ahead in how rural communties are represented.
