New Bishop Of Killaloe To Be Ordained Today

The new Bishop of Killaloe will be ordained in Ennis Cathedral today.

Fr. Fintan Monahan will take up the role which has has been vacant since Kieran O'Reilly left to become Archbishop of Cashel and Emly in early 2015.

Born in Tullamore County Offaly, Father Monahan is a former teacher at St. Jarlath's College in Tuam. 

He was later appointed Chaplain and served as diocesan secretary of the Tuam diocese for ten years. 

His appointment as replacement for Kieran O'Reilly was announced in July, with his ordination as bishop to get under at 3pm today in St. Peter and Paul's Cathedral Ennis.

At 49 years old, Father Monahan will become the youngest bishop serving in Ireland, something he feels has a number of advantages.
