A young economist from West Clare is considering throwing his name into the hat to run for Fianna Fáil in the next General Election.
26-year-old John Daly from Cooraclare, who’s a nephew of former Clare Fianna Fáil TD and Senator Brendan Daly, feels the knowledge he has garnered working as an economist would benefit this county.
The surprise move comes after Spanish Point psychiatrist Dr John Hillery withdrew last week from running as a West Clare candidate alongside East Clare’s Timmy Dooley.
John is a graduate of NUI Galway and the University of Limerick and now works as an economist in Dublin and says there needs to be government focus outside of the capital.
Party headquarters says it’s their National Constituencies Committee, and not local members, who will make the decision on who replaces Dr Hillery – something John has been telling Clare FM’s James Mulhall is not what he wants to see:
