The Environmental Protection Agency is warning more needs to be done to speed up the removal of lead from drinking water supplies in Clare.
The EPA’s Drinking Water Quality in Public Supplies report for 2022, which has been published today, shows four supplies in the West and North of the county remained on its remedial action list at the end of the year, with 22,000 people in Clare served by an “at risk water supply”.
The report also states that the number of schemes with exceedances of Trihalomethanes, or THMs, reduced from 16 in 2021 to 5 last year, mainly due to improvements in the West Clare Regional Supply.
Speaking to Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill, Senior Inspector in the Office of Environmental Enforcement, Patrick Chan has called on the Government to take greater leadership in ensuring supplies are improved.
