Nearly 800 Irish People Emerge From Bankruptcy

Nearly 800 people will get a fresh start from today, as they emerge from bankruptcy.

It's the first group to benefit from new laws – brought in this time last year – reducing the term of bankruptcy to 12 months.

The Insolvency Service of Ireland says from today, the 793 people will be able to start again without the burden of unsustainable debt.

Writer Jillian Godsill went bankrupt and lost her family home during the recession.

She says the proceedings were due to take three years, and she's happy it's come a bit earlier.
