Nearly 19% Drop In Optical Care Spend For Medical Card Patients In Clare This January Compared To Last

There was a nearly 19% drop in the amount spent on optical care for medical card patients in Clare this January compared to last.

The latest figures from the HSE show that at total of €39,020 was spent on eye care for Clare patients in the first month of this year.

1,016 adults, teens and children received optical care under the medical card scheme in Clare in January.

This is a near 15% drop on the 1,180 patients who were catered for last January.

888 adults received care this January, compared to 1,093 the previous year.

The number of children seen by an optician increased by 10 to 79 this January.

However, the number of teenagers who required care jumped dramatically from 18 in January of 2022 to 49 this year.

The overall spend on eye care and glasses in the first month of this year totalled just over €39,000, a near 19% drop on the €47,185 spent by the HSE in the same month last year.
